About

We often understand climate change through statistics and projections, something intangible and unfelt. This interactive installation aims to instead present it as a living system that remembers and transforms through interaction. My aim is not to shove some dreadful environmental collapse in people’s faces directly, but invite visitors to witness firsthand how small actions accumulate into larger ecological shifts.

Through “In Your Care”, the boundaries between observer and participant gradually disappear. In this world, we don’t just feel what’s happening emotionally, but physically, through our eyes and hands.

Are we witnessing change—or creating it?

Process

The work began with the collection of found moving-image material sourced from digital archives and online platforms. Alongside imagery created from scratch, these visual references were then transformed, composited, and reinterpreted through After Effects and TouchDesigner. Individual interactive elements, such as the microplastic sequence, were developed in p5.js before being integrated into a larger, scene-based experience. Mouse and scroll interactions were used to connect the work’s different visual states, allowing the viewer’s movement to shape the pacing and progression of the piece. In the final stage, text and graphic overlays were composed in After Effects to unify the installation’s visual language and reinforce its environmental yet digital-visual themes.

Reflections

This project was so incredibly frustrating at times but overall I had a lot of fun making it and genuinely learned so much from the process. If I were to go back and do it all over again, I would definitely add more snippets similar to the forest scene and also do more rounds of feedback. Thank you to everyone who tried out the final piece as well as those who gave feedback during playtesting :)
